The Greenhouse Van

Live plants arrive alive. Built for horticulture, not adapted from parcels.

Research concept · QV-05

1000 kg

Insulated, washable load space with racking designed around trays, not pallets.

Tap a part. Nothing here is a specification.

Current challenge

Live plants and produce are lost to heat, cold and dehydration in transit, and refrigeration draws from the traction battery exactly when range matters most.

Research question

Can a load space hold a living climate without spending the range the round depends on?

  • Humidity control
  • Low-draw climate hold
  • Light for long transits
  • Washable, recoverable interior

Current blockers

  • Auxiliary load versus range
  • No standard for living-cargo conditions
  • Weight of insulation

Potential breakthroughs

  • Phase-change thermal storage
  • Efficient dehumidification
  • Body-integrated solar for auxiliary load

What needs to change?

Engineering advances come from solving specific problems, not from wishful thinking.

Auxiliary energy separated from traction

Climate hold should not decide whether the van gets home.

Phase-change storage

Holding a temperature is cheaper than repeatedly reaching it.

A living-cargo standard

Nobody agrees what conditions a plant was promised.

Engineering assessment

Judgements, not likes. Each scored one to five with the reason stated.

Impact3 out of 5

Transformative for one sector rather than for all logistics.

Technical difficulty3 out of 5

Climate hold competes directly with traction energy.

Prototype readiness2 out of 5

Conversions exist; nothing is designed for living cargo.

Environmental benefit4 out of 5

Waste in horticulture transit is measured in whole loads.

Scientific confidence4 out of 5

Phase-change storage is proven; packaging it is the work.

Fleet Memory connection

How today's One Fleet evidence could help answer tomorrow's engineering question.

  • Auxiliary draw modelled against outside temperature
  • Dwell time with doors open at each drop
  • Losses reported by drivers on live-cargo rounds

Who might help

  • Horticulture operators
  • Body builders
  • Thermal engineers
  • Universities

Back to today

One Fleet already models auxiliary draw against outside temperature and dwell time at every drop.
